Undugu Fair Trade limited (Undugu FTL) was incorporated as part of creating an independent and professionally run entity from the former Fair Trade Unit of Undugu Society of Kenya (USK). The company’s focus is on business-driven social empowerment through exploiting opportunities offered by the fair trade for optimal benefit of producers in Africa. The Undugu FTL is establishing itself as the preferred marketing vehicle for African producers facing market access challenges and with the potential to positively change their lives through engagement in productive activities within their environment.
Undugu FTL positions itself to adequately respond to the needs of small producers and equally satisfy the expectations of its customers in a more sustainable way and at all times continue to embed its practices and operations on the key principles of Fair Trade and support in advancing the cause of championing the welfare of those disadvantaged in the society through sustainable business approaches.
The company’s main business is in export market and initially operated the first fair trade shop in Africa based in Westlands (Nairobi, Kenya) to cater for local market, offering a wide variety of products comprising of gifts and accessories, fashion and jewellery, food and household products with true African touch and taste.
In the recent Undugu past Undugu has developed a range of soapstone products made from the beautiful Kisii soapstone, found in the hills of western Kenya. Each item is 100% hand – carved and decorated, displaying a high level of craftsmanship. The collection fuses tradition with contemporary design giving a fresh twist to this age-old craft.
Undugu has mainly focused to offer a variety of hand- made products within the range of Home Accessories, Decorations and Gifts made from Soapstone, Wood and Basketry.
